Join us for charity madness at the CIA (California Institute of Abnormal Arts) in North Hollywood on MONDAY APRIL 20th at 830pm. 11334 Burbank Blvd in North Hollywood, CA. Cover is $10 and a portion of the proceeds benefit The Elysia Skye Breast Cancer Organization and LaughAboutCaner.org. We have many projects in the works that needs funding and The Changing are rocking out for a good cause (maybe for the first and last time). The night will also be filmed for an art and music scene documentary, so the more the merrier.
If you’ve never been to CIA, it is an amazing museum. And yes, there is a full bar. During the night, we will also be doing a locks for love hair donation, so if you’re thinking about shaving your head, or want to donate cash to make your friend do it, there’s never a better time than on 4/20! This is not your typical quiet peaceful benefit event. If it’s been a while since you’ve been drunk on a Monday, we’re going to fix that.
Love and Gratitude,
Elysia Skye
From our friend Maureen Rose (Los Angeles). If you don’t live in LA but you’d like to contribute, you can mail dresses/jewlery to her office.
Hi friends! A couple things if you are feeling generous with your time…
This Saturday the 14th 8am – 12pm (only 4 hours!!)
We’re going to do some landscaping in 13 different areas over at Youth Optimist within and around the main campus. The Mayor’s office is providing the supplies for this project, but we need volunteers (food and drinks will be available).
The address is
6957 N. Figueroa Street, PO Box 41-1076
Los Angeles, CA
If landscaping is not your thing, there are other jobs available such as:
o Man a booth to help recruit mentors and volunteers
o Visit various job sites to see if anyone needs water/supplies
o Painting
o Direct parking
o Help at the Welcome table
o Help direct lunch crowd
o Help get teams assembled
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Youth Optimist, please read up, it’s a great organization that I strongly support! http://www.oyhfs.org/

CASA of Los Angeles – Court Appointed Special Advocates… they provide advocacy for children going through the family court system.
On Saturday March 28th they are having our annual Glamour Gown Event where we provide girls in foster care and group homes Prom Dresses. We treat these girls like princesses for the day. They get assigned a personal shopper (volunteers like you and me) and peruse donated gowns to find the right one for them, as well as jewelry and other accessories. This is such a special day for these girls!!! AND it’s fun!!! Jess…you would be awesome at something like this!! And the girls get such a boost of confidence seeing themselves all decked out and actually have something to look forward to…looking amazing at their Prom!!
They set up on Friday the 27th of March at the convention center – and take everything down on Sunday March the 29th – They really could use some guys on those days. But I would say only females the day of the 28th so that we don’t make them feel uncomfortable changing and such. O and NO ONE under 18!! They don’t want these girls embarrassed in front of their peers!!!
The volunteer coordinator is Tracee Wilkes – please email her if you are interested in volunteering and she can give you the particulars. Her email is tbwilks@gmail.com. But let me know as well so we can go together!!
I’ve attached the CASA Fact Sheet to give you a little more info on this organization.
Hope you will come. It is truly a touching day. If you can’t make it (ladies) if you have ANY old dresses from PROM or Bridesmaid dresses (I think I had about 8 of those last year to donate hahaha) PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a girls day and donate!!! They accept shoes and jewelry as well. And if you could ask around to your friends and coworkers, they may want to get rid of some stuff – and you can just drop it off for me at Osbrink!!
Pass this onto friends if you know of people who want to help and please let me know asap if you plan on volunteering for either event so I can let the appropriate people know. Love you guys and thanks for your consideration on this.

Micro-Surgery Fundraisers!
In October 2008, we will be raising $30,000 to cure Elysia Skye of the very limiting lymphedema in her right arm. Because 22 lymph nodes were removed during her mastectomy in 2005, her right hand and arm began to swell roughly two months after the surgery (and very soon after her auxiliary web syndrome was cured). For almost three years, she has been living with a very swollen arm and hand that she has to wrap with compression bandages on a daily basis, and receive weekly physical therapy and acupuncture to maintain a somewhat tolerable level of swelling. Not only are these treatments time consuming, they are very expensive. Additionally, a fat arm does not look good on camera! Lymphedema is an ailment that is not studied often and if this surgery proves successful, it will hopefully encourage other doctors to learn this microsurgical procedure. Currently they only doctors practicing venous asatamosis are Dr.James Black in Torrance, CA and two other doctors in Italy and Japan. Dr.James Black studied at MD Anderson in Texas. So it is possible for other surgeons to learn this procedure in the U.S. The problem is the medical industry hardly talks about it! For more information on this procedure, please visit http://www.lymphedemapeople.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1099 or google search venus anastamosis.

Elysia's arm is very swollen in this photo taken in May of 2008. She weighs the same as she did in the photo from 2005, but her arm adds 10 pounds to the photo before the camera has a chance!
